Although renal osteodystrophy begins at the early stages of chronic renal failure, because of the symptoms appears at terminal stages and the other complications of chronic renal failure are more urgent, generally the treatment of osteodystrophy is neglected.

There are lots of clinical trials which aimed to take optimum results with vitamin D analogs for treatment osteodystrophy. We investigated the results of p.o 1-OC-D3, p.o calcitriol and IV calcitriol on 38 longterm dialysed patients who were dialysed at the hemodialysis department of Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital. They were divided three groups according to vitamin D analogs which they had been taken. Efficacy and safety of these agents were checked with bone density, radiological and biochemisthcal measurements at the beginning and the end of the study.

It is concluded that; although there are little differences between the results of these three agents, they were not significant statistically. Therefore these agents can be used for the treatment of renal osteodystrophy safely and efficiently.
