In this review, the relation of aluminium toxicity with human health is evaluated from the point of view of quality control. The main sources for aluminium entering the human body are cited and the aluminium limits for the water used in dialysis and parenteral solutions, raw materials and concentrated dialysis solutions and processes used for elimination the contaminants in water are given. The research on the absorption of aluminium gels and antiacids used orally for phosphate binding and peptic ulcer and the factors affecting absorption are reviewed. In these studies, the relation of the toxicity of this element with human health is emphazised. The serum and bone aluminium limits and results of the dialysis patients taking also oral preparations containing aluminium are given.
At the end of the article proposals are given and the lack of regulations covering aluminum content of parenteral solutions mentioned above and water used to prepare these solutions are shown.
