AN INVESTIGATION OF TOXOPLASMA GONDII ANTIBODIES IN HEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS IN VAN REGION

Objective: Prevalence of Toxoplasmosis which was increased in immune compromised patients were investigated in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis in Van region

Method: Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) IgG and IgM antibodies were investigated by ELISA methods in 54 patients with ESRD which were treated by hemodialysis and in 52 healthy controls.

Results: T. gondii IgG antibodies were found % 77.77 in hemodialysis patients with ESRD, and % 30.76 in healthy controls. T. gondi IgM antibodies were found % 1.85 in hemodialysis patients and % 1.92 in healthy controls.

Conclusion: As a result, Toxoplasmosis prevalence in patients with ESRD is two and half times higher than in healthy controls.
