Glucose intolerance, hyperinsulinemia, hyperlipidemia accompanied with essantial hypertension (HT) increase atherosclerosis. In order to evaluate metabolic status, in 209 non-complicated HT patients, with mean blood pressure (BP) 160/100 mmHg and 114 healty subjects, with mean BP 119/78 mmHg in Thrace region were covered. Fasting serum insulin, C-peptide, leptin, uric acid (UA), serum creatinine (Cr), fasting blood sugar (FBS), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL) were measured. Body mass index (BMI-kg/m ) was calculated. There were no differences observed between two groups in age and sex. In HT group, BMI, FBS, insulin, C-peptide, leptin, UA, TG were found to be high. BP and BMI were found to be pozitive correlated with insulin, C-peptide, leptin, TG also BP with UA and BMI with FBS. Significant metabolic disturbance were observed in HT females than those controls. Decreasing in serum Na+ with dietary salt restriction, elevation Hb, UA in smokers were observed. We thought that metabolic disturbances in our patients, might be decreased by life style changes.
