Twenty-two adults with the nephrotic syndrome related to idiopathic membranous nephropathy were assigned to conservative treatment or prednisolone and cyclophosphamide combination. At the end of follow up (median: 5,6 months) 15 of 18 treated patients were in complete or partial remission, as compared with 1 of 4 conservative treatment group. Thirteen of treated patients were in complete remission as compared with none of the conservative treatment group.
We conclude that prednisolone and cyclophosphamide for short time favors remission of the nephrotic syndrome in adults with idiopathic membranous nephropathy.
