Acute renal failure is defined as the abrupt decline in glomeruler filtration rate resulting from ischemic or toxic injury and observed mostly in the critical care units.
The most important factors playing role in the initiation and maintenance of acute renal failure according to recent data are decrease of glomerular capillary permeability, back-leak of glomerular filtrate, tubular obstruction and intra renal vasoconstriction.
If we know the pathogenesis of this injury; therapeutic maneuvers can be easily targeted to restore renal functions.
